UADY student will represent Mexico in international contest

 

 

-He will compete against representatives of the Confucius Institutes from all over the planet for the first place of the Bridge to China World Contest

 

Mérida, Yucatán, May 20, 2019.- Juan José Quijano Mendoza, student of the Confucius Institute and of the Degree in Biotechnology of the Chemical Engineering Faculty of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), obtained the first place in the selective stage for Mexico, thus gaining the privilege of representing the country in the XVIII edition of the Bridge to China World Contest for University Students, to be held this summer in China.


The second national place was awarded to Fabiola Alejandra Pérez Vera, also a student of the Confucius Institute of the UADY; both she and Juan José were granted a trip to China with the expenses paid and scholarships to study a semester in that country.

 


The qualifying jury evaluated the pronunciation, knowledge about the Chinese culture and the artistic expressions of the competitors. In this regard, Pamela Cristales Ancona, technical director of the Confucius Institute of UADY, said that this type of activities promote understanding and cultural exchange between both nations; she also commented that this contest is organized for students of Confucius Institutes around the world.


In this edition, there was the participation of students from the five Confucius Institutes of the country, which are located, in addition to UADY, in the autonomous universities of Chihuahua (UACH), Nuevo León (UANL) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) Mexico City has an independent institute, which is added to that of the UNAM.

 

Prior to the start of the event, Carlos A. Estrada Pinto, General Director of Academic Development of UADY, welcomed those present emphasizing that, for this house of studies, the link with the People's Republic of China contributes to the mission of generating citizens with ethics and global vision, without losing its cultural roots.


Juan Jose Quijano Mendoza, first national place, said: "Participating was a pleasant experience, I did not expect to win, but I saw that the intense preparation that I started since February paid off. I take this opportunity to thank my professors and the administrative staff of the Confucius Institute of UADY for all the support they have given me to get here. "

 

The event was also attended by Guan Yapei, political counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Mexico; Yang Hong, in charge of Education Affairs of the Embassy; Ligia Herrera Correa, director of the High School One of UADY; Gretty Herrera Arceo, administrative secretary of the High School One of UADY; Nora Alejandra Flores Nava, director of the Confucius Institute of UACH; Guillermo Ronoldi Copland, Sales Manager of Huawei Mérida; Dr. Andrés Aluja Schunemann, General Director of Cooperation and Internationalization and Yu Zhantao, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute of UADY.

 
It should be noted that the Confucius Institute of the Autonomous University of Yucatan is considered one of the most important in Latin America, thanks to the high quality of the courses offered, which has resulted in a steady increase in enrollment.
