Students of UADY will travel to the United States

-In their stay they will strengthen their project oriented to the protection and care of cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula

Mérida, Yucatán, June 7, 2019.- Young students from the High School One of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY) will spend a month in the United States to continue their projects related to social problems, all of this as part of a scholarship awarded by the "Jóvenes En Acción" program.

This scheme, organized by the Department of State of the United States, represented by its Embassy in Mexico and with the support of the private sector, provides the opportunity to Mexican students, enrolled in first or second year in a public or private institution of medium superior level, to participate in an exchange to the United States to explore social problems that affect both countries, culminating with the implementation of community projects in Mexico during the school year.

On this occasion, Andrea Calderón Aranda and Nidia Ramírez Chalé, first-year high school students, will visit the United States for four weeks, meet young Americans who also work on projects aimed at reducing similar social problems in their communities, practice the English language, and develop their leadership skills.

Beginning its tenth year, this program has 698 former scholars from 27 states of the Mexican Republic. Some of them have already finished their university studies and continue to develop their leadership skills, supporting their communities and strengthening relations between Mexico and the United States.

The themes for the "Jóvenes En Acción" 2019 projects include the following: access to healthy environments; bullying; creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship; financial culture; school dropout; discrimination; methodologies and technologies for learning English; prevention of the consumption of substances harmful to health; and domestic violence.
In the case of the students of the High School One, their social project revolves around the protection and care of the cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula.

As will be remembered, the Autonomous University of Yucatan promotes, within its Institutional Development Plan (PDI) 2014-2022, the establishment of agreements with foreign institutions of recognized quality to promote mobility and academic exchange of students.

Likewise, it instills in its students the development of learning activities that contribute to the construction of a culture of coexistence with nature, protection of the environment and sustainable use of natural resources.
